📚 Why Words Matter
Lesson Plan #27

"One kind word can change someone’s entire day."
— Unknown
Happy Monday morning!
Sometimes, a single sentence is all it takes to shift your perspective. Just a few words can lift our mood, help us feel less alone or offer a new way of looking at something we’ve been struggling with.
Those little moments stay with us—and that’s the magic of words. And it turns out, there’s science behind that. Studies show that reading positive affirmations can reduce stress and improve problem-solving. Neuroscience research even suggests that uplifting quotes can activate areas of the brain tied to reward and self-reflection—literally helping us think more positively.
In the classroom, that’s a powerful tool. Try adding a quote to morning announcements, using one as a writing prompt or encouraging students to keep a quote journal. You never know which words will stick—or which student might need them most that day.
In a world full of noise, let’s share the words that lift us up.

ANIMALS: You’ll Never Guess Who Just Finished a Delayed Dam Project (Grades 1 to 5)

In the Czech Republic, a project to build a dam on the Klabava River was taking forever. It began way back in 2018 and they had the building permit ready to go, but no one could agree on how to build it. While the talks were dragging on, some well-known engineers took matters into their own hands.

ENVIRONMENT: Saving the World at Just 15 Years Old (Grades 6 to 8)

When Nihal Tammana was in middle school—just like many of you—he saw something on the news that made him stop and think. A battery had exploded at a waste plant, and the reporter explained that batteries tossed into the trash could damage the environment or even cause fires. Most people might have just shrugged and moved on. But not Nihal. Instead, he decided to do something big.
Nihal even gave a Ted Talk on his mission last year.
SUSTAINABILITY: How High Schoolers Are Turning Old Clothes Into Climate Action (Grades 9 to 12)

Making a difference doesn't always require a lot of money or social clout. Sometimes, all it takes is a little bit of energy and community involvement. A few students at Lake Oswego High School in Oregon decided to take action against the changing climate and they started in their own closets.
With Goodable in the Classroom, you can effortlessly incorporate positive narratives that empower and uplift your students and most of all spread hope. Let's make the most of this opportunity to do something extraordinary and leave a lasting impact on our community.👇🏽
