Here are a few fun facts to “spring” on your students:
🌷The equinoxes are the only two times of the year when the Sun rises due east and sets due west for everyone on Earth.
🌺 The first day of spring usually falls on March 20 or 21. However, this year, it arrives a day earlier, on March 19, because 2024 is a leap year and February had an extra day.
🌼 One of the most famous ancient spring equinox celebrations took place at Chichen Itza in Mexico. Because of the way the sun falls on the pyramid during the spring equinox, it looks like an enormous snake is slithering down the steps. Ancient Mayans called this day “the return of the Sun serpent.”

Moving Trees North Could Save Forests
(Grades 9-12)
Researchers have been studying the effects of rising temperatures in the Northern U.S. Even an increase of just 1 degree Celsius could seriously harm pine forests and if temperatures shoot up by a whopping 6 degrees, those forests could be completely wiped out, leaving behind nothing but vast prairies. But scientists are trying something new to make sure that doesn’t happen and it appears to be working.
