📚 Lesson Plan #15

Bikes, Bubbles and Mental Health Check-ins

Hey Teachers! We know you're the superheroes of the classroom, and as your sidekick, we want to support you with the best educational tools in the world. That's why we're spotlighting the ultimate supportive, safe space tool - the mental health check-in chart!

This chart (which you can download and print for free here) was created by Erin Castillo, an English and peer counseling teacher in Fremont, California. Now, she's inspiring teachers all over the world to make their own versions for their classrooms.

Here's how it works: students grab a post-it, write their name on the back (with the name hidden from their classmates) and place it next to the statement that best matches their feelings for the day. The options are "I'm great", "I'm okay," "I'm meh," "I'm struggling," "I'm having a hard time and wouldn't mind a check-in" or "I'm in a really dark place." She then does check-ins with students in the struggling category and provides support. The download link even includes strategies for how to keep everything confidential.

You can find more resources on Erin Castillo's Instagram page here. Together, we can create a supportive and safe environment for all students, one post-it at a time!P.S.
